Sometimes 04:13
woah Sometimes Sometimes feel like crying Sometimes Sometimes feel like I’m dying I feel like I’m dying Am I? Rewind Rewind till I’m flying Remind Remind me it’s worth surviving Remind me why I’m striving Talk me through this till I’m thriving Can I? Why don’t you put your arms around me Why don't you wrap your arms around me Cause you know that I’ve been trying And I’m thinking about Woah No don't you put your arms around me No don’t you wrap your arms around me Even though I have been trying I’m still thinking about sometimes

I met a stranger for coffee He’s got a child he don’t see Said Daddy it’s alright Let’s call it for tonight He just sighed and said goodbye to me Met her at a bus stop Wearing everything she owns She came by my place just to shower Said the van she’s living in isn’t so grim Helping her is just beyond my power I don’t want to cry about my momma no more Sick of wasting life asking what it’s all for Either you’re the one I was made to adore Or you’re not Or you’re not I walked in when everything was falling Said don’t you worry baby lean on me We’ll make a new plan He said I’m my own man Finally we set each other free I don’t want to cry about my momma no more Sick of wasting life asking what it’s all for Either you’re the one I was made to adore Or you’re not Or you’re not Boohoo I’m not gonna cry Boohoo Still I’m not getting why Youuu just left me behind You all just left me behind

It’s raining now just over me but I can see blue skies wash me down so I can lie clean under the sun swelling hum drowning out the next door neighbor’s fight over the trash I smell the grass drinking in and breathing out Why You nestle in don’t have to ask I read it in your eyes black suit’s still on the ground from last week’s farewell scattered dust big buffet left untouched heavy silence permeates the faucet’s run dry from why just let go just let go easy as that say preacher man you’re hanging on too tight no time would have been enough we missed so much and now we’re left with Why

I won’t fall apart I promise you You let me carry your load Oh I can bear it Darling I swear it I’ll never fall apart I’ll keep moving Don’t you worry Oh I’ll keep on grooving Oh I’ll never fall I’ll never fall apart Noo No I’ll never slip no Not even when I dip low I’ll never fall Fall apart Over you No sir you can put me on the ropes And you can dash all my hope dear But I’ll never fall Fall for you again and I’ll I’ll I’ll never fall apart Even after you break my heart No I’ll I’ll never fall I’ll never fall apart (scat) No I’ll never fall apart dear Yes cause I’m too strong to play Such a pathetic part dear I’ll never fall You’ll never ever see me crawl No I’ll never fall I’ll never fall apart No I’ll never fall I’ll never fall apart

Losing Touch 03:58
I’m losing touch with reality It’s just too much for me today I’m losing ground The soil's washing away I float unbound its laws can’t tether me I drift way down can’t tell whether we Are lost or being found I stroke making waves I watch the ripples take shape Ropes and sails My lifeboat won’t fail me When the tide drags me No, no fear I’m nearly complete Yes, it’s clear No way I’ll retreat I hear my heart pounding Anxieties bounding I take my escape And I’m losing grips with solidity It all just slips through my fingers I get lost in my fantasies But your kiss still lingers I’m constructing out of dust Fanciful dream worlds built on trust Screws and nails My hardhat won’t fail me When it all falls No, no fear I’m nearly complete Yes, it’s clear No way I’ll retreat I hear my heart pounding Anxieties bounding I take my escape And I recede breathing heavily For relief I sing and play I release immersed in melody And for a moment I’m okay

Signs 03:46
signs appear in my sky I stride to catch the light time warps its own line sublime astrological signs Ahhh inside electric bolts hide mitochondrial cults jolts Frankenstein back to life adults grab your children and hide Ahhh combine laws of physics and rhyme divine secret patterns of Pi align fractal slivers of rime still life undermines paradigm Ahhh
8.
Upside Down 02:55
I am upside down To you my smile may look like a frown Cause I am turned around Only my split ends are touching the ground Don’t you worry about me I’m just hanging from a tree
All the stranger angles tangle all the input in my eye sockets Pictures turn to puzzle pieces falling from my open pockets Moving in reverse Bizarre rebirth emerging from a hearse Seems I’m growing young Germinating back to the spring from which I sprung Don’t you worry about me This the way it has to be Time spattering like spin art as the planet wobbles counterclockwise Strapped inside the whirling teacups grip, hiccup, hurl closing my eyes I am inside out My squishy organs are hanging all about Though I have been inverted My sense of self is preserved not perverted Don’t you worry about me I won’t be tumbled out to sea Though the tidal waves are rushing crushing salty sprays are keeping sweeping Sinews propel paddle so I won’t be made part of the reaping! Don’t you worry Don’t you worry

about

Comets and other drifting bodies, is an eclectic exploration of the spaces between us and the vastness within us, with hints of the little bits of magic that seek to bridge and fill those unnamable distances. Lead single “Upside Down” closes out the album with a bouncy, airy take on what it is like to feel out of step with your place in the world, yet somehow know that better days are ahead. Check out her whimsical stop-motion music video on YouTube. On the other end of the spectrum, lead track “Sometimes” approaches a similar subject with a more subdued, deeply emotional approach, with Chebrellan’s haunting voice calling for help with lyrics like “Remind me it’s worth surviving/ Remind me why I’m striving/ Talk me through this ’til I’m thriving.”

Elsewhere on Comets, Chebrellan shows the breadth of her songwriting on the album’s eight genre-blurring tracks, experimenting with the dark, swirling waltz of “Whisk Me Away” and the tortured, sultry jazz of “Scattered Dust.” She goes full-on lounge crooner on “I’ll Never Fall Apart”—complete with some playful vocal scatting for good measure—and even throws in a bit of bonafide, guitar-fueled indie-rock on the psychedelic-bordering “Signs.”

"There is indeed magic happening in this LP. There is moodiness. There is honesty. There is a feeling of aloneness and a feeling of community. [...] Despite some similarities in style, each song on Comets can stand alone, holding itself upright with authentic and sincere lyrics, coupled with the diversity of Chebrellan’s vocals in the duration of the individual songs. As a complete album, however, Comets is truly a journey."
~ KNACK Magazine

"Melody Chebrellan's new album Comets & other drifting bodies is a vibey if emotional ride with compellingly promising nuance, reminiscent of ascending bright lights Regina Spektor, Zooey Deschanel & Maggie Rogers and yet steeped in the dreamy tradition of masters like Kate Bush; pristinely pure, hovering now in a blissful obscurity, prepared for orbit."
~ Dave Ashdown
